Getting to know the breed before you begin training your dog is a good idea. Each dog breed comes with its own personality and mentality and if you want to be succefull training, it is something you should consider while training your beagle dog.
If it has four legs and a tail, or two legs and feathers, or fits in a home aquarium, there's a Barron's book to help you understand and care for it. The "Training Your Dog Series" offer guides written for owners of German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Beagles, beagles, Labrador Retrievers, and Beagles.
Beagle resembles to Foxhound in body shape, there are some differences like head are broader than Foxhound and the muzzle is shorter, legs are shorter and the expression is totally different. The height of the Beagle is from 13 to 16 inches. And the weight varies from 8 to 16 kg. The skull is of dome shape with medium length.
The muzzle is of square in shape. Beagles have strong jaws and jaws scissors are perfect, they fit into the lower jaws without any cavity in between. The eyes of the beagle are large and brown in color. The ears are large, soft and hang. The neck is strong and of medium length. In Beagles one can find many colors. Mostly one will find tricolor Beagles. In tricolor 'Classic tri' and 'Dark tri' are most common and available. Beagles sometimes have white coat with patches of black and brown hair.
Of these six breeds, Labradors, German Shepherd breed, and Beagles are perennial members American Kennel Club's Ten Most Popular Breeds. So there would, or course, be a market for books about how to train them.
But the beagle breed is notably non-violent. Its destructive tendencies, when aroused, surface out of boredom and a need to release its overflowing energy. And any beagle training manual, to be effective, will have to be written by someone who understands the nature of the beagle beast.
Joan Hustace Walker, author of "Beagle Training The Hidden Method", seems to understand it very well.
"Beagle Training The Hidden Method" is not only a training guide. It offers the beagle owner information on the beagle breed's history and the personality quirks unique to beagles which make them the marvelous people-loving dogs they are.
The book is loaded with photos which make the techniques crystal-clear. And all the training techniques in "Training Your beagle: The Training Your Dog Series" are based on positive reinforcement. That's crucial, because beagles are not only intelligent; they have a very high pain threshold, so trying to get tough with them will get you nowhere. Let your beagle know it is doing well, on the other hand, and you will have a happy, obedient dog.
"Beagle Training The Hidden Method" covers everything from housebreaking and socializing your new puppy to teaching it the five basic commands every dog should obey, "Come", "Heel", "Sit', "Down", and "Stay." It also has chapters on learning tricks, how to control your beagle's aggressive instincts, and competitive and non-competitive activities which will keep you beagle both busy and tired.
Beagles do not require daily exercise. Beagle mix up with children easily and their good friends. The most common disease in beagle is epilepsy and can be controlled with the help of medicines and a Vet. Beagles rarely develop immune medicated polygenic arthritis. Beagle suffers from separation anxiety; one should carefully adopt a Beagle.
